Vodafone GigaTV is a leading entertainment platform that offers a wide range of TV channels, movies, and series to viewers around the world. We were tasked with adapting the existing user interface of the set top box to the apple tv.

Key Challenges

One of the main challenges was the lack of feature parity between the Set Top Box and tvOS app. This means that certain features that were available on the Set Top Box were not available on the tvOS app.

Another challenge we faced was the limited functionality of the Apple TV Remote. It did not allow for the same inputs as the remote for the Set Top Box. For instance, entering a channel number via the numpad was not possible using the Apple TV Remote.
UX Conception
We first worked on a handful of concepts that deviated a fair bit from the official Human Interface Guidelines. Though we quickly found that the Apple TV remote (at that time it was the all black one) was a very limiting factor in terms of interaction design. Aside from that we wanted to optimize the app´s performance. Ultimately we decided to use as many original tvOS components as possible.
